The Witcher Season 2: Geralt & Yennefer to Reunite

The Witcher Season 2: Geralt & Yennefer to Reunite

Netflix series The Witcher season 1 aired in December 2019 and the show mostly received positive reviews from the viewers. The story is about Geralt, a witcher, who the travels the Continent to fight against monsters. Witchers are actually humans but they are genetically altered and are specifically trained to become fighters. They are very few in number because many die during the transformation period as not everyone can survive this process.

The first season is based on the books The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny and it follows Geralt’s timeline over a period of 20 years. Yennefer, quarter-elf sorceress, and Geralt have a chaotic relationship throughout the season and by the end of it they have broken up however a video on Instagram posted by Sara Talib hints towards the fact that they might get together in The Witcher season 2 as they were seen riding a horse together in the video.

Season 2 was announced when season 1 was available on Netflix and filming for The Witcher season 2 had begun in January 2020 however it stopped due to the Covid-19. Filming began again recently however a few members of the cast and crew tested positive for the Covid-19 test therefore it came to a halt until further notice.

In season 1, Geralt meets a bard Jaskier who he dislikes however Jaskier sticks around with him throughout season 1. The showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said that The Witcher season 2 would have flashbacks and a linear storyline. The show is based on short stories and fantasy novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski and a video game of the same name also exists.

As per the official The Witcher season 2 storyline Geralt will take her Ciri, princess of Cintra, whose guardianship he has to, Kaer Morhen which is the Witcher training castle which is a scene from the first book from the Witcher series which is called Blood of Elves. The book also says that Geralt mistakenly believes that Yennefer died at the battle which takes place at the end of season 1 however in the book Blood of Elves they unite indicating that at some point in The Witcher season 2, Geralt will reunite with Yennefer. However, all these are assumptions based on the story in the books. The Witcher season 2 will premier in 2021 so until then it’s only a guessing game for the viewers.
